with David Young, Master Saddler

David Young, a native of Newcastle, England graduated in saddlery in 1979 from Cordwainers Leathercraft College in London. After college, David had the great opportunity to work with the Master Saddler Les Coker, who was regarded as the best. David worked with Les for four years, then setup shop on his own in Holland. After a couple of years in Holland, David returned to England where he had a saddlery workshop in the south of England, west of London.
David was elected into The Society of Master Saddlers as a Master Saddler in 1991.
In 1994, David came to the United States to work for a saddle company in upstate New York where he setup a workshop for the company and acted as trainer in the art of saddlery and saddle fitting. Upon completion of his contract in New York, David moved to North Carolina to act as trainer in saddle repair and saddle fitting at a tack shop. David has given numerous clinics and workshops on saddle fitting all over the country, but mainly throughout the eastern seaboard. His venues include Cornell University, Sweetbriar College in Virginia, Virginia Tech, and pony clubs and horse clubs all over. David is also one of the senior instructors of the Master Saddlers Association saddle fitting workshops in the United States.
David has had articles on saddle fitting published in Dressage Today, Dressage and CT, and Horse Journal. David is currently residing and working in South Carolina.

Schedule an Appointment

You are welcome to bring your horse(s) and have your dressage or jumping saddle fit assessed, and have it reflocked while you are here, thus insuring the best possible balance and comfort for you and your horse. We will make stalls available for those who would like to ship-in so that you may take as much time as necessary to have your saddle fitted.
Prices are as follows:
$50. for consultation per saddle on existing fit. Includes watching your horse go under saddle if necessary to assess fit as well as measurements for tree size, etc. which you may keep whether or not you choose to have your saddle flocked.
$125. to flock (in addition to consultation) plus travel expenses in the Syracuse Area at Nancy Novak’s Deer Hollow Farm, Cazenovia, NY
Pegasus Dressage has also recently become the regional representative for Custom Saddlery, Inc. and will have saddles available in case you’re interested in seeing what we have available in a new or used saddle. Custom also make some wonderful jumping saddles, which may be viewed on their website, www.mysaddle.com or www.mytackshop.com We are also able to order any item on their website for you.
Fitting Sessions will be scheduled at 1 hour intervals, from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, and will need to be reserved in advance. We will add sessions on Friday afternoon if necessary. Please be about 15-30 minutes early, in case the person before you happens not to need an adjustment. You may need to wait for your saddle to be reflocked between appointments, so plan for approximately 2 hours if that is the case.
